You are correct, however you may have mixed up your words a little bit. I would word it, "Velocity of product formation should decrease since the active site of the enzyme is occupied by the inhibitor and prevents the binding of substrates that take part in the formation of product. More substrate should be added to overcome the effects of the inhibitor."
